In Luke 9:23 Jesus said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Living the Christian life is to be a daily thing. Every decision we make, everything we do, should take God’s will for us into account. Sadly, many people today are “part-time” Christians. They will come to worship services on Sunday mornings and leave their Christianity in the pew when they depart. As they go about their lives through the week, thoughts of God and His will for us never enter their heads. They act just like everyone else, they talk just like everyone else, there is no difference between them and people of the world. Then the next Sunday they will come to the church building and put on the mantle of their Christianity for an hour and leave it in the pew again as they leave the building.

In Philippians 1:27 the apostle Paul wrote, “Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel”. Our conduct, the way we live our lives daily, is to be worthy of the gospel. Christianity is not a “part-time” thing. We should strive every minute of every day to live as a Christian should. God’s word should affect everything we do and everything we say. To follow Christ requires that we, “take up our cross DAILY.”
