One of the problems we have as Christians is remembering that we are not citizens of the world, but rather our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). We get distracted by all the worldly things that we have to deal with on a daily basis and we forget the spiritual things that should be our number one priority. In Matthew 6:25-34 Jesus tells His listeners five times not to worry. In verse 31 Jesus said, “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’” Jesus tells us not to worry about worldly things, but if we make spiritual things our priority then God will make sure that we have what we need. “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:32-34). We must discipline ourselves and work to keep our minds focused on the truly important things. “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:5-6). If we discipline our minds and keep our focus on God we can put away the worries of the world. “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.” (Colossians 3:15). One of the great blessings Christians have in this life is the ability to live without worry. In Philippians 4:4-7 Paul tells us, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
