In Romans 1:20 the apostle Paul makes the statement, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…” In this verse, Paul tells us something that should be obvious to any straight thinking person. There are things about God that we should be able to deduce from the creation around us, primarily His existence and the fact that He is the creator of everything. Psalms 19:1 tells us, “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.” Matter cannot create itself, science knows this, yet scientists are so set on denying the existence of God that they will throw common sense out the window and say that everything came from nothing. I am always amused when scientists discover something new and then say, “This changes everything we thought we knew”. I also think it is interesting that when describing some complex system, whether it be the universe or the human body, they cannot avoid using the word “design”. If something is designed, it has a designer. When people deny the existence of God, they are not following the evidence. All evidence, if approached objectively and honestly, leads to the fact that God does exist. Some people claim that reading the bible made them an atheist. It did not. They wanted to be an atheist and went looking for something they could twist into something that looked like it supported their view. These “atheists” are much like the people Paul was talking about in Romans chapter one, they “suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (vs 18). They “professing to be wise, they became fools” (vs 22). And finally, “...as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind…” (vs 28). It is sad that some people will work so hard to convince themselves of something that isn’t true when it will hurt them in the long run. Accepting the truth would make them happier now and pay huge dividends in eternity. If we are a faithful child of God, we can look around us and see all that God has made for us to enjoy, and we have no need to “...worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34).
